Sunshine Skyway Bridge

On Sunday afternoon we took a drive down to the North Pier of the Skyway State Fishing Pier. The Sunshine Skyway carries Interstate 275 over the mouth of Tampa Bay, connecting Pinellas County with Manatee County to the South. It's an interesting and somber site to visit.

On May 9, 1980, a freighter ran into the bridge during a rainstorm, resulting in the deaths of 35 people.

Parts of the original span were left, and at each end of the bay, they serve as fishing piers.
Lots of people sit out there in the hot sun to fish!

The new span is in the background.

Quick, Heathcliff! Run!

Awww, those pics bring back memories, but many of your pics do. I sure do miss living in Tampa Bay. We crossed that bridge many times getting to our home in Bradenton. Watch out for the pelicans on the fishing pier. One tried to kill me once!
