Franks and Beans

On Saturday around mid-afternoon, we stopped at the Dairy Inn on Dr MLK N for lunch.  I've always heard such good things about it.  And, it's been a local landmark for over 60 years.  I've had a shake from here a short while ago when our assistant manager bought a round for all of us.  And it was goooood!

We opted for the cheeseburgers and chocolate malts.  The burgers and the shakes lived up to the raves.  This place reminds me of the summer snack 'shacks' up north, open in the summer during the nice days, closed on rainy days.  I am so going to try other menu items.  Oh, and more shakes!

On the way home from the beach on Sunday, I was getting into that summer menu groove again,  so I decided to make up some franks and beans.  I could eat it all in one sitting, but am controlling myself.  If only I can stay away from ice cream . . .

End of Summer Approaches

Una Voce had their annual pool party at Tom's and Nelson's this afternoon. Master chef Wayne made two dishes: the roasted shrimp and orzo salad (previously made for Valentine's Day. And he made a raspberry trifle with cake and custard with Amaretto. Another yummy! I'm not eating all this week!

Before desserts were served, there was this "contest". Contestants were to be blindfolded and then with arms behind their backs, they had to eat thru the whipped cream to get to the hidden quarter. The first to find it and spit it out on the table was the winner.

The contestants. The fellow on the right is Derek, the Artistic Director of Una Voce. Unfortunatly for him, this was a set up. After all were ready for the starting gun, the blindfolds of the three others were removed and they stood by as Derek dove in!

He's a good sport! He vowed to work their butts off at rehearsals now.


Two trifles!

Hot and Cold, A Parallel Universe

I saw this 'poster' in Vinoy Park on my walk this afternoon. It was around 80 degrees and I wanted to be outside. I had seen on the Weather Channel web site, how cold it is up in Albany and that there was a winter storm warning issued. I went to a site that shows different scenes of the highways via those web cams that you see all over the place. It looked cold and wet and dreary. The temperature was somewhere in the teens. How could this be? My world is warm and it is 'summer'. So my post tonight consists of the sights I saw on my walk today. I know my friends up north will get back at me next summer when I am dying down here.

If you look close enough you can see the Christmas decoration on the front door.
