Fourth of July 2010

The entire Fourth of July weekend has been cloudy with off and on rain, heavy at times.  Still, the festivities must go on!  On Saturday Alan and Phil had a cookout and pool party at their home in Hyde Park.  Although overcast, the rain held off.  On the Fourth, Joe and Pete had appetizers and dinner and dessert, and put on the most spectacular display of pyrotechnics after the dessert! They really know how to entertain!

June Outings & Adventures

June was a busy month!  These photos are from the Sunset Yoga held on Sunday night after the Pride Celebrations.  Seems like many were too pooped to yoga, so we had a small intimate crowd for yoga and light dinner afterwards at Alfresco at the Vinoy.  It was beautiful and breezy.  Towards the end of the session, it seemed like a storm was about to hit (we could hear the music from the Wizard of Oz as the tornado was approaching).  It seemed to hit all around us, but the sky was open and clear above us.  Not sure if it comes thru well in the photo, but there is a rainbow in the background in the group shot.

Our class was led by master Yogani Studio instructor, Thom Taylor.

St Pete Pride highlights 2010

Great highlights from the St Pete Pride Promenade!

Saturday was the 8th Annual St. Pete Pride Promenade and Festival.  It was a beautiful sunny clear sky day, but a HOT 96 degrees!  Nonetheless, all went well!  The crowd was estimated at 80,000.

I volunteered to work the opening shift at the Outings & Adventures booth at the festival.  I arrived there at around 8 am and helped Robert and Joseph and Russell get the booth set up. 

Here is the "double wide" all set up and ready.  Green grass and pink flamingos!  Fortunately we were under some shade trees!  We were signing people up for the email list, which also entered them in a drawing for Cindi Lauper tickets and Rent tickets.  We also applied temporary tattoos to all willing participants.

I missed my photo ops at the beginning of the parade since I was working in the booth.  So the following is just a glimpse of some of the floats and groups in the Promenade.

This is Joe and Pete.  They live a block away from me.  And fellow New Yorkers to boot.  Moved here a year ago from Long Island.

The long flag was unfurled from the back of this truck as it rolled up Central Avenue.  People joined in as it passed.

We headed over to Georgie's for some lunch and refreshments afterwards.  Huge hamburgers and a jerk chicken sandwich, potato salad and cole slaw and plenty of water!!!
