Thanksgiving 2009

Wayne and I were invited to go over to Johnny's for Thanksgiving. Johnny's sister Carolyn is visiting from Rhode Island. Dinner was scrumptuous! Another Oink! Oink!

Wayne made this cake for our pot luck dinner Tuesday night at Suncoast Squares.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is
a time to reflect on the changes,
to remember that we, too, grow and change
from one season of life to another.

Thanksgiving is
a time of changing seasons, when leaves turn golden
in Autumn's wake and apples are crisp
in the first chill breezes of fall.

Let us remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
As we see the beauty of Autumn,
let us acknowledge the many blessings which are ours...
let us think of our families and friends..
and let us give thanks in our hearts.

Happy Thanksgiving from Florida!

Booms in the Night

Last night I was sitting in my living room minding my own business, when I heard all of these loud booms! I thought, "Fireworks? Is it July? Did I miss something?"

Then I remembered that on my walk to the Saturday Morning Market after I got out of work this morning, that I saw all of this stuff set up in Straub Park, (near the Vinoy). And I remembered seeing something about this Chillounge Night. I went out to the balcony near my laundry room and was treated to a nice fireworks show! If you click on the St. Petersburg Chillounge on the left at this site linked here, you will see a short video from last year's. This is the second year for it.

I can't believe that this is Thanksgiving week! On Tuesday night we're having our pot luck at the Suncoast Squares. Then on Wednesday at work we're having another Thanksgiving feast. On Thursday Wayne and I are going over to Johnny's for dinner. I think by Friday I won't want to see another piece of turkey meat until next year!

Sunset Beach and Mazzaros

I went to Sunset Beach this morning around 11:00 am. I was surprised at how much of the beach had erroded since I was there last week!
It was a beautiful day, sunny and in the high seventies.
I met Wayne at Mazzaro's around 2:00 pm. We had lunch on the patio. MMMMMMM!

When we were about to leave, we noticed all of these ladies dressed in purple, and all with red hats on. The Red Hat Society bus had arrived! These pictures don't do them justice, but they were EVERYWHERE!

Rib Fest 2009

This past weekend was the annual Rib Fest in Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg. I went last year and loved the food! Wayne and I walked down from my apartment to meet Mike and some of his friends there on Saturday afternoon. There were musical groups playing all weekend, and Blue Oyster Cult was there on Saturday afternoon, and I thought I'd like to catch them there.

We got there around 2:00 pm, before the crowds got so big. Vinoy Park is right on Tampa Bay. Lots of boats were anchored nearby to catch the music.

There was also an auto show there too.

A choice of vendors: we ended up getting the Desperado Platter, same as I got last year!

These guys were eyeing my ribs!

Blue Oyster Cult about to take the stage. By this time it was getting crowded and we were getting old. All the loud music was getting to us! So, as they were singing their first song, we started heading back to my apartment.

Veterans Day 2009

I spent a couple of hours at Sunset Beach on Treasure Island. I got there just before 11:00 am. There was hardly anyone there. The sky looked threatening, but I didn't run into any rain except for a minute or two of light mist.

As time went on, the surfers began to arrive. Not sure if Ida was still causing the big waves, but it sure was active!

I shot this from the porch of the beach house as I was leaving to head back home.
Thank you to all the Vets who served their country!
