Saturday night I went with the
Outings and Adventures group to see the
American Stage production of Hair. It's their 25th annual park production in
Demens Landing in downtown St. Petersburg. About 50 members of O & A went. It reminded me of all the time we spent in Washington Park in Albany where Park Playhouse puts on their annual summer productions. Joe played Kurt in the Sound of Music back in 1990. YIKES!!! That long ago! We used to usher there and spent many nights under the stars! Adele and Mia used to enter the themed "Light up the Park" competition. One summer neon was big. Another, red, white and blue. Mia was little then and we used to buy her clothes specifically for entering! What's that reality show that's on the tube now??? Anyhow, the Demens Landing venue is very nice. One difference is that it's right on Tampa Bay, and there are palm trees around and you can see sailboats at the docks nearby.
The production was excellent. I had seen
Hair in New York City twice; the first time in 1968 and again in 1970. Some of the themes seem a little archaic today (like what's all the fuss over hair???) and some is still relevant (like war).
Sitting on my blanket before the show. All the music and talking spots were from the late 60s. Did set the mood. My only disappointment? No Janis Joplin!!!

my favorite song from Hair was "easy to be hard" --nostalgic, indeed! Thanks for the great St. Pete Photos. :)
