Sunset on Sunset Beach

On Saturday we decided to take a ride over to the Gulf to catch the sunset. It's free and easy!

The sun was actually stilly pretty warm. We didn't bring any beach gear, just figured to sit on one of the benches.

Still some activity out in the water.

Waiting . . .
(for Godot?)

Almost . . .

We ran into Otto on our way out.

Gina Visits

Gina arrived on Wednesday night for a mini visit! I expected her a little later, and when she called to let me know she was getting off I-275 on 22nd Ave N, she caught me by surprise! I was up in Clearwater at Wayne's, checking on his house and Tommy, his cat, while he was up North visiting family. Needless to say, I did make good time in getting back to my place!

Gina brought me part 2 of my Birthday gifts. She gave me a beautiful PowerPoint presentation on my Birthday, and she brought me 4 stemware glasses. Two with flamingos on them and 2 with palm trees. She knows they go great with my decor! :-)

We were both hungry, so after our usual game of "where do we eat?" we decided on The Garden on Central in downtown.

The food was excellent: gnocchi with marinara sauce, blue cheese encrusted steak, and a Moroccan chicken dish. Downside was the little bugs that kept biting our legs under the table!!!

We went for a nice walk after we got back to my place. Gina loves to walk around my neighborhood. Me too! That's why I love to live in Old NE!

I've been wanting to take a picture of this for a long time. It's right outside the entrance to the municipal pool in Northshore Park.

We started the day on Thursday with fresh nectarines and blueberries with vanilla yogurt.

Then we headed over to John's Pass over on Madeira Beach on the Gulf.

Pirates are big deal around here!

For lunch we stopped at Sculley's. Gina had a hamburger, and some great crusty fries, and I had a crab cake on a bun. YUM!!!

We stopped at Mazzaro's to pick up some stuff for dinner. I had this hazelnut encrusted chicken breast with this sauce with orange zest, and Gina had a hot italian sandwich. We had a side of tuscan beans and carrot cake for dessert. You can't go wrong with Mazzaro's!!!

Tippi Hedren Must Have Been in Town

I had the afternoon off, so I thought I'd spend a few hours at the beach. It was a beautiful day; around 90, a gentle breeze off the Gulf (at least I didn't have to worry about my umbrella blowing inside out!), and warm water. I set up my chair and umbrella, doused myself in sun block, (especially the top of my head!) then headed into the water.

After coming out and drying a little, I took my customary walk down the beach and back. There are still some areas roped off as bird nesting areas. By law, the areas are not to be entered. I walk along the edge of the water, allowing the waves to wash over my feet as I walk. Well, when I got to this one section of beach, all of these birds were gathered at the water's edge. Some of them made a peeping sound, and although they weren't too small, I figured they must be the young birds. There were LOTS of them. I gathered the louder squawking birds were the mothers or fathers. I was getting a little nervous as I was walking by, and picked up my pace. At one point, one of the adult birds was circling low over my heading and squawking at me. I hustled thru and on the way back did the same. I guess I know how poor Tippi felt now!

Wayne is out of town, so I went alone to the Suncoast Squares. There's always a partner. I danced with Margaret and we had a blast! It is like riding a bike . . . those gym classes are like yesterday! It's a fun group and everyone is quite friendly. I was talking to Sophia from Brooklyn tonight . . . a fellow Italian! She lives in Gulfport now. We had some good laughs!

Squares

This photo was from the "Fun Night" sponsored by the Suncoast Squares on July 7. We were a bit hesitant at first, but enjoyed ourselves! Dough - Sigh - Dough!

Birthday Bash on the Beach

We were invited to James' 35th Birthday Party "Luau" on Sunday. It was held on Sand Key Beach. It was my first time there. Wayne used to work with Milena, James' wife. Wayne's company has been down sizing, and Milena was let go a few weeks ago.

The approach to the beach.

Milena and James were serving prosciutto wrapped melon.
