I Should Have My Eyes Examined!

Wait! I did! This morning! Eyes are healthy. Got to keep my old glasses. Only had to get new supply of contacts.

I made the mistake of taking a walk along the Bay to downtown about an hour after getting home from my examination. Unfortunately, my pupils had been dialated and despite having sunglasses, I squinted all the way because of the sunshine. I went to BayWalk to see Slumdog Millionaire. Loved the movie...a tad bit depressing. I do like the modern Indian music and the Bollywood type stuff. Loved the dance scene at the end credits!

Look Ma! No Cavities!

Well, I finally did it! I found a dentist! Had my first visit today. Got a good report! No cavities! Very nice and friendly place, and they accept my dental insurance! All the workers seem to be enjoying themselves there. One of the hygienists stopped in to say hello to me! I didn't recognize her at first . . . she rented the apartment above mine and moved out a couple of months ago. What a small world!

A Wicked Read

I found this on a sale table at Barnes & Noble on Saturday. I hope it's a good read. Although I do like Adele's version that she wrote back in 1994 and placed in the top 100 in her age category in the "Written and Illustrated By" competition.

Valentine Weekend

It's nice when a holiday falls on a weekend. Plus, because of Presidents Day, it's a three day weekend!

You know I love posting pictures of food. So, why should this weekend be any different? Wayne made this dark chocolate raspberry cake. Yes, it is to die for!

We went to the Saturday morning market to walk around in the nice weather. Lots of people were out and about downtown.

I took this picture of a tree located near the Pier. For those who doubt we have a "winter" down here.

We went to the Cajun Cafe on the Bayou in Pinellas Park for lunch. I had Jambalaya and Cajun fries; Wayne had Cajun burritos.

This was my first time there. It had atmosphere and the food was good.

Sunday afternoon we had watched Paula Dean and a guest chef make calzones and it got our attention. We took a walk over to Valentino's on 4th Street North, but alas, they're closed on Sundays. So, we continued to walk toward downtown and ended up at Jo Jo's on Central Avenue. We ate at the sidewalk cafe. Wayne had the spinach and cheese calzone, I had the ham, ricotta and mozzarella cheese version. They were good and we've decided to hit the restaurant again to sample the pastas and other dishes.

I took this picture after our tummies were full. Maybe we lost a calorie or two on the walk home?

Gasparilla Weekend 2

ARGH!!! The weather has finally broken out of this cold snap! It was a booty-ful weekend for pirates. The annual Gasparilla Invasion took place this past Saturday. Unfortunately, I had to work in the morning, and the thought of traffic, parking and rowdy crowds convinced us to stay away. Maybe next year . . .

These pictures were not taken by me. I got them from the TBO (Tampa Bay Online) site.

They do PIRATE real big down here!

Sunday afternoon was beautiful and it seemed like the return of the warm weather (mid 70s) had everyone out and about in St. Pete.

And, what's a post without some food pictures? This is Pepperoni Pasta (from one of the Italian cookbooks I gave Wayne for Christmas).

This is my own recipe: French toast (made from the French loaf from the pasta dinner) with fresh strawberries and vanilla yogurt).

I think this pelican thought I was going to steal his fish.

This is the dog playground. LOTS of doggies out there today. This doggie is the "gate keeper" since he was sitting by the entrance/exit pen.

Super Bowl Weekend

This has been quite a busy weekend. Friday was the busiest day at work in a looooong time! After work a bunch of us gathered at Ferg's in St. Pete to bid farewell to Jaci who is moving to West Palm Beach. Ferg's is a sports bar just north of the Tropicana.

Wayne and I were invited to a "Post Holiday" party on Saturday night. This couple leaves their decorations up for the party...so I guess it's not quite "post holiday". The above picture is of the back yard. The weather lately has been pretty cold at night, in the 40s and low 50s. Knowing that it was going to be outside in the backyard, in addition to the inside, we figured we should dress warmly and maybe wear hats to keep our heads warm. Around 2:00 pm on Saturday Wayne gets this inspiration, so off to JoAnn's we go. At 5:00 pm, fabric is cut and it's off and running. Our creations:

Aretha Franklin's Inauguration hat has caused quite a stir. So, inspired by Aretha and dedicated to Gina. (See Birthday in Orlando ) our hats, and they kept us warm for sure!

No Super Bowl parties for us on Sunday, so it was just a stay at home and watch. For half time, Wayne made this Barefoot Contessa chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting.
